Acoustic Performance

   Sound absorption is usually defined by the absorption coefficient (usually expressed in Greek letters α, α) and is defined as the ratio of the absorption of the single interaction between the acoustic wave and a material to the incident acoustic energy.
    The absorption coefficient ranges from 0 to 1, as a function of frequency.
    α = 0 means that the material does not absorb sound and reflects all of the acoustic energy incident on it.
    α = 1 means that the material absorbs all of the acoustic energy incident thereon and does not reflect.
The absorption coefficients 0 and 1 are ideal values that do not actually exist because all materials reflect and absorb some sound.
     Generally, materials having an absorption coefficient of less than 0.15 are considered to be reflective, while materials having an absorption coefficient greater than 0.4 are considered to be absorptive.
